 Philosophy of humanism was developed by the “new learning” of the Renaissance  Was a speaker at the house of Commons in 1523  Helped obtain free speech there  Did no agree with King Henry’s many divorces

 Was made Lord Chancellor in 1529  Resigned in 1532 naming ill health as the cause  1534 More was imprisoned in the Tower of London for refusing to call King Henry the leader of the church  More was falsely found guilty of treason  Beheaded in 1535

 Authored Utopia in 1516, written in Latin  Talks of the social and Economic conditions in Europe  Also wrote a history of the reign of King Richard III  More also wrote a number of treatises

 More was canonized in 1935 by the Roman Catholic Church
