Mark 1: – “Salvation”

Mark 1:40-45 – “A man with leprosy came to Him and begged Him on his knees, "If You are willing, You can make me clean." Filled with compassion, Jesus reached out His hand and touched the man. "I am willing," He said. "Be clean!" Immediately the leprosy left him and he was cured.

Jesus sent him away at once with a strong warning: "See that you don't tell this to anyone. But go, show yourself to the priest and offer the sacrifices that Moses commanded for your cleansing, as a testimony to them." Instead he went out and began to talk freely, spreading the news. As a result, Jesus could no longer enter a town openly but stayed outside in lonely places. Yet the people still came to Him from everywhere.” – Mark 1:40-45

Suffering in his spirit : Severed relationship with God, cursed by the Almighty, soul : Segregated from his community and family – lonely and heart-broken, body : Savaged by a Disease slowly “eating” his body away.

1. Release 2. Resign 3. Resist 4. Rescue

Resign The first worldview belongs to those who believe in the karma philosophy of life, and the second worldview belongs to those who are fatalistic.

What is the meaning of salvation ? 1.Something physical – like saving or salvaging a ship 2.Something emotional – to be saved from fear, from guilt, worry, anxiety 3.Something spiritual – to be saved from death for life; from hell for heaven; from curses for blessings.

What then is our Christian understanding of Salvation ? We are to be saved in all 3 areas ! Jesus has come to give us salvation in our Body, Soul and Spirit.

The process of Salvation : Justification, Sanctification, and Glorification.

The process of Salvation : Justification, Sanctification, and Glorification Justification : my spirit has been saved – Romans 3:24-28, 4:25, 5:15-19, 8:30-33, 10:10, 1 Corinthians 6:11, Galatians 2:16-17, Titus 3:7.

The process of Salvation : Justification, Sanctification, and Glorification Justification : My spirit has been saved Sanctification – my soul (mind, emotions, will) is being saved – John 17:19, Acts 20:32, Acts 26:18, Romans 15:16, 1 Corinthians 1:2, 1 Thessalonians 4:3, Hebrews 10:29.

The process of Salvation : Justification, Sanctification, and Glorification Justification : My spirit has been saved Sanctification – My soul (mind, emotions, will) is being saved Glorification – my body will be saved – Matthew 22:31, Luke 14:14, 20:36, John 11:25, 12:16, Acts 4:2, 17:32, Romans 6:5, 8:30, 1 Corinthians 15, Hebrews 6:2, Revelation 20:5-6..

The process of Salvation : Justification, Sanctification, and Glorification “I have been saved, I am being saved and I will be saved.”

Leviticus 5 – it is taught that anyone who touched anything or anyone deemed as unclean, such as a man with leprosy, the one who touched the leper would also become unclean. Leviticus 13 – a leprous man who has been healed of his leprosy has become clean again.

That is the way of the Cross – sinless Jesus becoming SIN, the worst most unclean SINNER who ever lived, SO THAT He can overcome that sin with His blood, His life, and then Bring Purity and Healing to those He touches.

Mark 1:40-42 – “A man with leprosy came to Him and begged Him on his knees, "If You are willing, You can make me clean." Filled with compassion, Jesus reached out His hand and touched the man. "I am willing," He said. "Be clean!" Immediately the leprosy left him and he was cured.

Mark 1:43-45 – “Jesus sent him away at once with a strong warning: "See that you don't tell this to anyone. But go, show yourself to the priest and offer the sacrifices that Moses commanded for your cleansing, as a testimony to them." Instead he went out and began to talk freely, spreading the news. As a result, Jesus could no longer enter a town openly but stayed outside in lonely places. Yet the people still came to Him from everywhere.”

Jesus was saving or sanctifying this man’s mind, emotions and will.

Jesus wanted that man to go back to God’s Word, to be obedient to God’s Word (“offer the sacrifices that Moses commanded”). God’s Word is the only thing that will cause our mind to understand the mind of Christ, to know God’s will.

What is the purpose of Education ? “Prepare people for Life” or “Prepare people for a job” ?

Robert Hutchins vs John Dewey Education is to “prepare people for life” vs“prepare people for a job”

Robert Hutchins vs John Dewey Education is to “prepare people for life” vs“prepare people for a job” Life First, then career

Mind : man’s philosophy  God’s Word Emotions : zeal  obedience Will : self-will  God’s will Mark 1:43-45 : Jesus sent him away at once with a strong warning: "See that you don't tell this to anyone.

Jesus wants to sanctify / save our Mind : man’s philosophy and beliefs  God’s Word Emotions : ungodly emotions  God’s love, peace, hope Will : self-will  God’s will
