A typical Engineering drawing

What is the purpose of an Engineering drawing? Discuss in groups Engineering drawings provide information for an operator to make an item They are created within the technical drawing discipline They are used to fully and clearly define requirements for engineered items.

Engineering drawings are usually created in accordance with standardized conventions for: layout, nomenclature, interpretation, appearance (such as typefaces and line styles), size, etc.

Standardisation What do we mean by standardisation? Discuss in groups Will Engineers in Japan understand the drawings made in this country? It means consistent , all the same, identical

What needs to be standardised? Discuss in groups

Standards and Conventions Standards and conventions for: layout line thickness text size Symbols view projections descriptive geometry dimensioning

What information would you need to make an item? What material will we use Dimensions- what size will it be Imperial or metric measurement – how are the sizes measured? Tolerances – how accurate do the measurements need to be – limits and fits Surface texture – how smooth or rough How will it be made – what process Are there more than one part How will they be put together
