How to read a Dewey Decimal number On a book, there is usually 3 numbers on the spine label. Those 3 numbers tell you where the book goes on the shelf. Like if a book has the numbers 889. This means that on the shelf, it goes between the numbers 888 and 890.

Dewey Decimal System The Dewey Decimal System has specific books in each class. Like for example, if a book had the number 823, then its genre or class would be literature. The classes of the Dewey Decimal system go in this order: 000-Computer science, information and general works 100-Philosophy and psychology 200-Religion 300-Social sciences 400-Lauguage 500-Science ( including mathematics) 600-Technology and applied science 700-Arts and recreation 800- Literature 900-History, geography and biography

Dewey Decimal System The Dewey Decimal system has been around for centuries. It has been greatly modified and its most recent change has been in the year This system organizes books on library shelves and it makes it easier to put it back in its proper place. The Dewey Decimal System is used in over 200,000 libraries and over 135 countries. It was created in 1876 by Melville Louis Kossuth Dewey. This system is still used today.
