Briefing Outline PURPOSE: To provide an overview how to transfer X-Ray image and patient Data through network 1.Background. 2.Methodology. 3.Scenario 1:-transmitting text. 4.Scenario 2:-transmitting Files.

Background Telemedicine uses telecommunications to deliver medical diagnosis and therapy, often over great distances. Telemedicine has important benefits to providers and users alike. Mainly here we concentrate on two objective: 1)Telemedicine is ‘ a system of health care delivery in which physicians examine distant patients through the use of “telecommunications technology”. 2)telemedicine is “the interactive transmission of medical images and data to provide patients in remote locales with better care.

The types of patient included for Telemedicine consultation were as follows... - Respiratory tract infection : 30.7% - Gastroenteritis: 24.8% - Fever : 20.4% - Trauma: 7.3% - Cardiology: 11.50% - Dermatology 5.3%

METHODOLOGY

Scenario 1 Patient is in remote area and want to transmit medical reports such as Blood report. Doctor in Medical center Will evaluate report and suggest Remedies to patients. We can use Existing Internet network to transmit such data. Data size Of text reports are Typically in KBs.

Implementation We have developed a network application to transfer text files over network. Application was developed in java. Application has two parts :Patient part and Doctor’s part Patient can send his report to doctors by connecting to doctor’s system.

Scenario 2 Patient has to send a X-ray Image to remote medical centre. A digital X-ray image can be obtained by scanning x-ray or by taking Picture through a high resolution camera. Typical file formats are,.TIF,.GIF,.JPG etc

Sample X-ray images transmitted Left image: right hand. Right image: pelvis. (Image size 210 Kbytes (tiff format), resolution 2000x1400).

Implementation Files are transfer over network using a Protocol called “FTP”. So we can use existing FTP services of operating system. We can make a FTP server at Clients medical centre. Doctors will fetch X-ray images from that server. To do it more interactively we can use some popular software's

Conclusion Accessing Inaccessible: Telemedicine can provide and improve access to health care in previously un-served or under-served areas. Improved quality of care: Telemedicine allows the consultation to take place among the referring physician, the consulting physician, the patient, and the patient’s family through interactive video with critical information of the patient available on-line. Reduced cost: The travel cost of the patients for specialty care, the travel cost for health care professionals for continuing education or consultation, the personnel / equipment cost for not having to keep specialty care facility in rural hospitals, and other costs can be either eliminated or reduced. Reduced isolation: Telemedicine provides a peer and specialist contact for patient consultations and continuing education.
