Supporting the NHS to deliver better, safer, quality care NHS Connecting for Health

What is NHS CFH? NHS Connecting for Health (NHS CFH) is supporting the NHS to deliver better, safer care for patients We are working together to introduce new information technology systems and services which improve the way information is stored and shared We are supporting the delivery of High Quality Care for All

What is NHS CFH responsible for? New information technology systems and services – which are together known as the National Programme for IT (NPfIT) Existing business critical national NHS IT systems

Our Mission Provide patients with more choice and control Create a health service designed around the patient Provide health professionals and patients with better access to information Help health professionals deliver better patient care Provide a service fit for the 21 st Century To support quality driven care

Why a National Programme for IT? Patients have growing expectations about choice, convenience, quality and responsiveness. Treatment can be delivered by a team of health care staff based in different buildings or organisations across primary and secondary care, or out in the community. Complex modern care requires information to be shared effectively - paper based records and computer systems that are not linked up do not support this.

Need for Change Care provided more complex - technically and organisationally Paper based systems do not support information sharing Patients receive treatment from many health care professionals Patients want greater involvement in decisions about their care
