Some Old Testament “Woes” The Companionless (Eccl. 4:9-10)

Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 “Two are better than one, Because they have a good reward for their labor. 10 For if they fall, one will lift up his com- panion. But woe to him who is alone when he falls, For he has no one to help him up.”

Some Old Testament “Woes” The Companionless (Eccl. 4:9-10) The Wicked (Isaiah 3:11)

Isaiah 3:11 “Woe to the wicked! It shall be ill with him, For the reward of his hands shall be given him.” (In the end, we all get what we deserve. It is the principle of sowing and reaping)

Some Old Testament “Woes” The Companionless (Eccl. 4:9-10) The Wicked (Isaiah 3:11) The Striver-with-God (Isaiah 45:9)

Isaiah 45:9 “Woe to him who strives with his Maker! Let the potsherd strive with the potsherds of the earth! Shall the clay say to him who forms it, ‘What are you making?’ Or shall your handiwork say, ‘He has no hands’?”

Some Old Testament “Woes” The Companionless (Eccl. 4:9-10) The Wicked (Isaiah 3:11) The Striver-with-God (Isaiah 45:9) The Dishonest (Jeremiah 22:13)

Jeremiah 22:13 “Woe to him who builds his house by unrighteousness And his chambers by injustice, Who uses his neighbor's service without wages And gives him nothing for his work.” (It seems that the present day business model is unrighteous)

Some Old Testament “Woes” The Companionless (Eccl. 4:9-10) The Wicked (Isaiah 3:11) The Striver-with-God (Isaiah 45:9) The Dishonest (Jeremiah 22:13) The Evil Pastors (Jeremiah 23:1)

Jeremiah 23:1 “Woe to the shepherds who destroy and scatter the sheep of My pasture!" says the LORD.” (With leadership comes grave responsibilities)

Some Old Testament “Woes” The Companionless (Eccl. 4:9-10) The Wicked (Isaiah 3:11) The Striver-with-God (Isaiah 45:9) The Dishonest (Jeremiah 22:13) The Evil Pastors (Jeremiah 23:1) The Drunkard (Isaiah 5:11,22)

Isaiah 5:11,22 (11), “Woe to those who rise early in the morning, That they may follow intoxicating drink; Who continue until night, till wine inflames them!” (22), “Woe to men mighty at drinking wine, Woe to men valiant for mixing intoxicating drink.”

Some Old Testament “Woes” The Companionless (Eccl. 4:9-10) The Wicked (Isaiah 3:11) The Striver-with-God (Isaiah 45:9) The Dishonest (Jeremiah 22:13) The Evil Pastors (Jeremiah 23:1) The Drunkard (Isaiah 5:11,22) The Perverter (Isaiah 5:20)

Isaiah 5:20 “Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; Who put darkness for light, and light for darkness; Who put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!”

Some Old Testament “Woes” The Companionless (Eccl. 4:9-10) The Wicked (Isaiah 3:11) The Striver-with-God (Isaiah 45:9) The Dishonest (Jeremiah 22:13) The Evil Pastors (Jeremiah 23:1) The Drunkard (Isaiah 5:11,22) The Perverter (Isaiah 5:20) The Conceited (Isaiah 5:21)

Isaiah 5:21 “Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes, And prudent in their own sight!”

Conclusion Whether physical consequence, or the judgment of God, sin brings only pain to the sinner. “Good understanding gains favor, But the way of the unfaithful is hard” Proverbs 13:15
