Lecture 17 Cutting Department

Marker making….  Efficiency of marker = (Area of patterns in marker plan / Total area of the marker plan) X 100

Cutting Losses…  End Loss  Width Loss  Splice Loss  Buffer Loss  Remanent Loss

Cutting Losses

Objectives…  Objective of cutting is to separate fabric parts as replicas of the pattern pieces in the marker plan.

Points to be considered…  Precision of cut –Accurate cutting according to the marker  Clean edges: –Raw edges of fabric should not be frayed  Un-fused edges: –Edges are fused due to the heat generated due to the friction of blade and fabric

Cutting method & Instruments… 1. Manual –Hand shears –Straight Knife –Round Knife –Band Knife –Notchers –Drills and Shear markers

Manual Cutters

Cutting method & Instruments… 2. Computer Controlled Cutting –Straight Knife –Die cutting –Laser cutting –Plasma cutting –Water jet cutting –Ultrasonic cutting

Automatic Cutters
