Women’s Struggle to Vote Woman's suffrage is the right of a woman to be able to vote in normal elections, regardless of gender. The fight for woman's voting began in the decades before the Civil War. Limited people had the right to vote in the 1820’s and 30’s. Only white men had the right to vote, regardless of wealth. In 1870 black men were given the right to vote, via the 15 th amendment. The 15 th amendment guaranteed the right to vote without restrictions based on ones race, creed, or condition. This sent outrage through the feminist community. Some were unwilling to endorse the amendment because it did not give woman the right to submit a ballot. Other women argued that once black men got the right to vote they would too. As a result from the two conflicting theories, two organizations aimed at women’s suffrage were made. They eventually combined in order to gain power. On August 26 th, 1929 after 59 years of imprisonment, strikes, boycotts, and proposed legislature the 19 th amendment was passed giving women the right to vote.

Violence against women

Violence Against Women Domestic Violence: Who is Domestically Abused? Is it the shy girl sitting alone at lunch…..or the popular cheerleader? The truth is that 1.3 million women a year are domestically abused. It doesn’t matter where you live or who you are it can happen to you. When you think of violence against women you think of third world countries not the all-American couple next door. But, before women earned their right to equality it was an accepted fact of society that the husband was allowed to beat and verbally harass his wife. Domestic violence is not only the physical abuse we all think of it also can be the emotional deterioration of someone. Although, domestic violence can happen to men, Domestic Violence is an awful fact of life and actions need to be taken in order to stop this cruelty. Sexual Violence: 1 in 4 women are Sexually Abused in their lifetime. Women between the ages of are the most at risk or a sexually violent attack; although girls from age are also at risk to become prey to a sexual attacker. The attacker in these situations is 90% of the time someone you already know. Police forces used to be less sensitive to these cases but recently many states have cracked down on their policy against rape and sexual violence. Sexual Abuse like Domestic Violence can happen to men but it mainly targets women.
