Chapter 1A Classifying Living Things Lesson 2 Animal Classification

Animals  Many celled  Have nuclei  Feed off other living things

Vertebrates Animals with a backbone **Examples: snake, bear, human, frog

Vertebrates Mammals Have hair & produce milk for their young Reptiles **Examples: Cats, dogs, humans Have dry and scaly skin **Examples: Lizards, snakes, &turtles Amphibians Have moist skin with no scales ; most begin life in water but live on land as adults **Examples: Frogs, toads, newts BirdsFish

Most vertebrates have sharp senses & large brains. These help them survive in their surroundings.

Invertebrates Animals without backbone **Examples: snail, crab, beetle

Invertebrate Song To the tune of BINGO In-ver-tebrates Have No Backbone!!

Arthropods  invertebrates with legs that have several joints,  their bodies have 2 or more parts  sometimes have shells to protect them **Examples: beetles, bees, crabs, lobster, grasshopper, spiders

Mollusk invertebrates that may or may not have a hard outer shell **Examples: snail, sea sponge, clams

Mollusks Song To the tune of Mary Had a Little Lamb Mollusks are invertebrates, invertebrates, invertebrates Mollusks are invertebrates and may have an outer shell
