What is this and what is its’ importance to Egyptologists?

The Rosetta Stone It has the same thing written in three different writing systems: hieroglyphics, demotic (Egyptian writing that was easier than hieroglyphics), and Greek. It allowed archeologists to decipher (figure out) hieroglyphics by using the other languages there.

What is the title of the epic story about a Sumerian king who goes on many adventures?

The Epic of Gilgamesh

They all were located along river valleys.

Near the coast and rivers (because that’s where the fertile land is!)

What are two memorable accomplishments of the Phoenicians?

They were known for: 1. their seafaring skills 2. their ship building 3. spreading Mesopotamian culture around the Mediterranean Sea 4. INVENTING THE ALPHABET

The time period in which there was no civilization, no writing, people were nomadic, and farming had not occurred yet was called __________________________.

A piece of land surrounded by water on three sides

Give one example of how people adapt to their environment.

Fishing if you live near the sea. Dressing differently depending on the climate. Terrace farming on the sides of mountains. Building irrigation ditches to water crops.

Culture is sometimes referred to as “a blueprint for living.” What do you think that means?

Culture is a person’s total way of life including how they eat, dress, behave and speak. It is like a blueprint because a blueprint is the general design for something like culture is a general design for your life.

What were Harappa and Mohenjo Daro?

Twin capitals of the ancient Indus river valley civilization that showed a great amount of urban planning.

Which ancient civilization developed these?

How was ancient Sumer organized?

There were exceptions to this rule from the Hammurabi Code in ancient Babylon: “An eye for an eye”

If you hurt someone from a lower social class, the punishment was not as harsh.

How did ideas and goods get from ancient China to the rest of Asia and eventually Europe?

Along the Silk Road!

Respect for parents (elders and family too!)
