Senior Year Scheduling

Graduation Requirements Pass all required courses Pass competency assessment exercises – Pass all components of competency assessment weeks (MS1 and MS2) – Pass OSCE end of third year (MS3) Pass USMLE Step 1 (MS2) Take USMLE Step 2CK and 2CS (MS4) Course requirements years 3 and 4 – Core Clerkships42 weeks – Required Clerkships26 weeks – Elective Courses14 weeks

Externships All core clerkships must be completed Clear and required process through Office of Student Affairs – Student finds schedules and externships – Requires health insurance, immunizations, OSHA HIPAA – Paperwork submitted and approval granted PRIOR to starting externship

Visiting Student Application System Used to apply for externships at selected schools VSAS

95 weeks to complete 82 weeks 13 weeks of unscheduled time 4 weeks of vacation (winter break x 2) Need to leave time in late Fall and Winter of fourth year for interviews Time Management

When in year? – Specific attendings – letters, mentors – Early match (Military, Ophtho, GU) – “Rehearsal” before externship Limited availability of some courses, here and externships Taking USMLE Step 2 CK and CS exams Professional or personal obligations Scheduling Considerations

March 23 – April 3, 2009 Establish personal preferences & special considerations Review Senior Elective Manual and senior block schedule dates (soon to be online ) List desired schedule with priorities & alternatives 20 minute Senior schedule appointment time assigned according to lottery number Be on time for your scheduling appointment! OOT? Scheduling may be done by proxy/phone Choosing Senior Schedules

Add – Drop Policies 2 wk Window period, then 1 wk Frozen period, then open until January 2010 Each course has an add/drop deadline (2 weeks) Written permission from coordinators required after deadline Use ESS on-line system to check availability Submit written request to Cathy Guzman Must have all core & required clerkships scheduled at all times
