Poisonous strawberry dart frog How they live By: Ellie

Contents Basic life cycle Mating to laying From here to there Eating and danger Growing to an adult Again and again and again…

Basic life cycle Tadpole gets moved into a plant with water in it. Mother lays an edible egg for the tadpole to eat. Grows back leg Grows front leg and tail get shorter Becomes an adult. Contents

Mating to Laying At any time of the year, when the males are ready to breed, it starts to croak and try to attract the female. After mating the female will lay about 5 eggs. She will then fertilize the eggs and wait for it to hatch. Everyday the frogs will return to the clutch, the male moistening it’s egg by emptying it’s bladder. After 7 days the eggs will hatch, into a tadpole. Contents

From here to there The tadpole has a journey, their vehicle used to the final destination, is the father’s back. The mother will hop on the trees until she finds a bromeliad plant. Inside the base of the bromeliad, there is fresh water. The father will hop into the freshwater, in the plant and carefully puts half of her body into the water making the tadpole land in the water carefully. Contents

Eating and danger All living things has to eat, but how will the tadpole live in the plant without food? The mother lays an unfertilized egg, for the tadpole to live. The tadpole will live on the egg. The tadpole can live safely, but has some dangers. Some carnivores, like the coati sometimes come to drink the water from the plant. While drinking the tadpole can be swallowed by the coati. Contents

Growing to an adult After 43 to 52 days and after the mother laid 40 unfertilized eggs the tadpole will go through metamorphosis. Metamorphosis is when one thing changes to another. The tadpole will first grow it’s back legs then the front legs. After that it’s tail will get shorter. In the end from the tadpole will be a frog. Contents

Again and again and again… This is the life cycle of a poisonous strawberry dart frog. It’s life cycle will happen again and again. A never ending cycle.
