Fair Work Act 2009 commenced 1 July Fair Work Australia now operative New rules covering enterprise bargaining and unfair dismissals National Employment Standards (NES) and Modern Awards commence from 1 January 2010 Fair Work Act 2009 OFFICE OF THE COMMISSIONER FOR PUBLIC EMPLOYMENT

Fair Work Act 2009 Impact on NTPS OFFICE OF THE COMMISSIONER FOR PUBLIC EMPLOYMENT No change to terms and conditions of employment, yet… Workplace Agreements now “transitional instruments” Continue to operate until new agreement commences From 1 January 2010 any terms and conditions that are detrimental to an employee compared with NES have no effect

Fair Work Act 2009 Impact on NTPS cont. OFFICE OF THE COMMISSIONER FOR PUBLIC EMPLOYMENT NTPS agreements generally comply with NES New agreements due in 2010 for NTPS General, Power and Water, Teachers, Fire Service and Medical Officers Negotiations and new agreements will be subject to Fair Work Act Expect NTPS awards to be modernised before January 2014
