Set Up for Live Streaming Video This presentation will walk you through the set up and delivery for streaming video of a live event over the internet.

Set Up the Tripod  Using the “quick- release” levers on the tripod, you can extend the legs to the proper height and length needed for your shoot.

Detach the Tripod Plate  Using the “quick- release” lever on the tripod, remove the tripod plate. You will notice the attached half-moon tab is used to tighten the screw.  Also, line up the two holes when attaching to the camera.

Unpack the Camera  Unzip the bag and take out the video camera.  Note that the camera case has wheels and a luggage style handle for ease of transportation.

The Audio Box  Both levels should be set to 10.  Both inputs should be set to Mic.  Set to Mono NOT stereo.  Switch between G1 & G2 (Ground) to see if there is any hum in the audio.  Plug Mic cable into XLR input.

Attach the audio box/tripod plate  Attach audio box to the camera with a penny.  Attach the tripod plate to the audio box by twisting the tab to secure into place.

Camera onto Tripod  Carefully angle the camera and tripod plate to fit onto the tripod.  Lock it into place using the quick release lever on the back of the tripod and tighten the lever on the left to lock it.

Prep the shotgun microphone  Take out the shotgun microphone.  Make sure the switch is set to “on.”  Check the low pass filter setting to see which setting works best for your event.

Attach the shotgun mic  Slide the mic on the accessory shoe at the top of the camera.  Connect the 18” XLR cable from the mic to the audio box (or longer cable w/handheld mic for announcing).  Plug the audio box wire into the mic jack in front of the camera.

Connect the headphones  The headphone jack is located at the back of the camera.  Always listen and monitor your audio for the entire shoot.

Camera Power  Use a battery by placing into the housing first, then slide it down until it clicks into place.  If plugging the camera in with electrical power from an outlet, attach the connector cable to the camera, then plug the other end into the ac/dc converter box, then into the wall outlet.

Turn the camera on  Rotate the power switch on the camera down one notch to “tape.”  The “tape” indicator light will appear on the left side of the camera.

Loading the tape (part 1)  Pull the eject lever to the side and open the tape carriage.  The tape will only fit in one way- nose down and facing out.

Loading the tape (part 2)  Notice the position of the tape, it is facing out towards us and heading nose down into the carriage.  Gently push the tape into the carriage.

Loading the tape (part 3)  Once the tape loads and is secure, push the carriage closed.  Wait for it to stop and then close the outer door.

Prepare the laptop (part 1)  Take the laptop out of the bag, zip the bag shut and use it as a small table if a chair isn’t available.  Connect the ethernet cable to the back of the laptop.

Preparing the laptop (part 2)  Plug the other end of the ethernet cable into an ethernet wall outlet.  Plug the power cable into the back of the laptop and into the nearest outlet (you may need an extension cord).

Preparing the laptop (part 3)  Push the release button on the front of the laptop and open it.  Power on the laptop by pressing the power button at the upper right corner of the laptop.

Prep the usb video board (part 1)  Pull out the usb video board/break out box. It has usb (video) and mini (audio) on one end and 3 RCA heads on the other (yellow, red, white) for Video and 2 audio channels.

Prep the usb video board (part 2)  The usb (video) connects to the usb port and the mini (audio) connects to the mic or microphone input right next to it (not the headphones!).  Then connect & match the RCA cables on the other end to the included RCA extension cable. Yellow to yellow, red to red & white to white.

Connect RCA extension to Camera  A side panel at the rear of the camera has 3 color-coded outputs for the RCA extension cable (yellow, red, white) match them.  You should now have audio/video going from the camera to the laptop.

Laptop screens  First you will need the user name and password.  You may also need to click “ok” to select external audio source.  Open Adobe Flash Media Live Encoder.

Camera standby  Press the green button and rotate the dial down one notch to “TAPE” mode to record onto miniDV tape. (Not Memory or Camera, these are for other options).  Flip the the LCD viewfinder up.

Media encoder screen (part 1)  Change the video input from the integrated webcam to the video card (that’s the video board to our camera input opposed to using the laptop’s webcam).  Also change the audio input from mic array to line in/input (that is our camera’s audio opposed to using the laptop’s microphone.

Media encoder screen (part 2)  Make sure volume slider is set just “slightly” to the right to only about 5%.  Make sure stream to flash media server is also selected.

Media encoder screen (part 3)  Also select “save file” to record a file of the event simultaneously to the hard drive.  After you click “start” This is your event streaming live! Monitor the bottom left corner and make sure the icon stays green, if it turns red – YOU NEED TO STOP & START the stream again.

To view a live streaming event  Go to: and click on the Tantasqua home page and click on the link in the bottom left “video center.”  You will see live streaming video during a live streamed event!

Powering down the laptop  Close all applications and go to the bottom left start button and select shut down.  Windows will close down, laptop will power off and pack everything up carefully and store it in a VERY safe place until you return it to the tv studio the next morning.
