The Star of David By: Kadie Lee

The description The Star of David is a six-pointed star made up of two triangles superimposed over each other. In Judaism it is often called the Magen David, which means the "shield of David" in Hebrew. It doesn’t have any religious significance in Judaism but it is one of the symbols most commonly associated with the Jewish people. Many Jews wear jewelry with the Star of David as part of the design and the flag of Israel has a blue Star of David in the center. In many ways it has come to be a symbol of unity

The meaning There are many symbolic meanings attached to the Star of David. The triangle within the star that points upwards is a symbol of good deeds that reach the heaven and attract goodness to the world. This attraction of goodness is symbolized by the downward pointing triangle.

Another meaning The other meaning of the Star of David indicates that the overlapping stars represent the relationship between God and Jews. The star pointing upwards represents God and the star pointing downwards represents people on earth. The six sides and the center represents the six working days and hexagon at the center represents Sabbath. It may also mean the twelve sides on the triangle that represent the Twelve Tribes.

Information The origins of the Star of David are unclear. We do know that the symbol hasn't always been associated exclusively with Judaism, but was used by Christians and Muslims at various points in history. Sometimes it was even associated with King Solomon instead of King David.

The Flag of “The Star of David”

Information The six-points symbolize that God rules over the universe and protects us from all six directions: North, South, East, West, Up and Down. King David used this symbol in the battlefield on his shield as an omen from God.

This is the natural color of the Star of David This is the natural color of the Star of David. The 12 sides represent the 12 tribes and the 6 sides represent the 6 working days. As you can see the two triangles interlock, like I said it represents god and the Jews. It is a very meaning full symbol to them.
