Presentation transcript:

Representation of members. Unions can represent members faced with redundancy, grievance, disciplinary procedures and legal action. Representation occurs with employers and in employment tribunals

Negotiation of pay and conditions of work with employers This is known as 'collective bargaining', and benefits both workers and employers. More power for workers, so a better pay deal. Collective bargaining assists employers because it simplifies the process of negotiating with workers.

Help ensure high standards of Health and Safety Trade Unions provide a network of health and safety representatives in Britain's workplaces. These TU officers help ensure a safe workplace, reducing the chance of workplace injury.

Range of other Services Union members can benefit from a wide range of services which are not directly related to the workplace. These include financial, legal and welfare services.

Development of equal opportunities policies Unions support the development of equal opportunities policies. Most large companies and many smaller ones now operate policies which attempt to eliminate discrimination at work. Trade unions have not only supported their members who have been discriminated against, but also helped the work force and employers to understand the policies.
