There are two variants of English There are two variants of English . They are American English and British English. Each country wants to promote its own variant of English throughout the world.

What is the best variety of English? Some people think that British English play the most important role in the life. Their reasons are: British English is the only correct version of English; Keep it English! British English has a longer history than American English; British English or “the Queen’s English” is the purest form of English;

What is the best variety of English? At the same time others think that American English is winning. There are some strong reasons: American English developed from British English and has only a short 200-year history; American English is full of abbreviations, slangs and twangs; American English is more lively and flexible language, open to change; American English has to do with travel; American English is much less rigid than British English; Let’s learn American

ENGLISH IS AND HAS ALWAYS BEEN CONSTANTLY CHANGING ENGLISH IS AND HAS ALWAYS BEEN CONSTANTLY CHANGING. SOME WORDS DIE, SOME CHANGE THEIR MEANINGS AND ALL THE TIME NEW WORDS APPEAR IN ENGLISH. BORROWING WORDS IS ONE OF THE WAYS TO ADD NEW WORDS TO THE LANGUAGE. FOR EXAMPLE: Jeans: This world was first used in the 16th century to describe a kind of cotton cloth. Its name goes back to the Italian city of Genoa, where it was made. Trousers were made from the cloth and these were called jeans. Cotton: This world arrived in English sometime in the 14th century from France (coton), but the French themselves got it from the Arabs who had a material called ‘ koton’. Potato, tomato, tobacco: When Columbus came back from South America he brought home to Spain new plants. With the plants he brought their names. This is how these words appeared in Spanish and later borrowed from it by the English language. Opera, operetta, piano: These Italian words that are now part of English have to do with music. Denim: Denim dates from the 17th century when a heavy cloth from the French town of Nimes was called ‘Serge de Nimes’. ‘ De Nimes’ soon became denim.
