BEYOND RECYCLING FOOD SCRAP COMPOSTING: A VALUABLE RESOURCE FOR OUR COMMUNITY Fifty percent of Glendale waste is compostable (22% non-paper organics and 28% paper). State is moving toward requiring 75% waste diversion and food scrap composting is probably necessary to meet that goal. With waste disposal decreasing at Scholl Canyon Landfill due to mandatory commercial recycling, the Landfill is a promising site for a composting facility.
