Eighty percent of Jamaica’s population are christians. Other religious groups are Anglicans, Baptists, members of the church of God, and Roman catholics 100,ooo black Jamaicans belong to Ras Tafari, which is a religious and political movement considering former European Haile Selassiel of Ethiopia as a god.

Education was slow until the 1970s. Jamaica’s government provides free elementary schools for children 6-15 years old. 90% of Jamaican children go to primary school, but 55% attend high school. University of the West Indies has more than 5,000 students at its Mona campus on the outskirts of Kingston. 15 year old children are able to read and write.

Jamaica has many art forms such as, music, art, and drama. Jamaica often has live reggae performances, which is a very popular genre of music. In the villages there are often many street dances and steel bands. These forms of entertainment attract more than 850,000 tourists yearly.

Jamaica is a mountainous island that is 4,244 square miles. The climate is tropical with temperatures higher along the coasts and cooler in the mountains. Jamaica is one of the wettest regions due to the 100 inches of rainfall that happens annually. The western region and coasts of Jamaica are savannas, plains, and scattered trees. Jamaica suffers from drought and Flooding.

Most of the people in Jamaica live on the coastal plains. Jamaicans are mostly of African origin Major ethnic division is between whites and blacks Jamaica. Some other ethnic groups are Chinese and Indians.

The Jamaican military is a defense force, which consists of Ground Forces, Coast Guards, and The Air Wing. Both males and females serve in the military The military is mainly used for defense and security. You must be 18 to join the Jamaican military Jamaica’s military expenditure is about 31 million dollars.

Some activities that are popular in Jamaica are horseback riding, scuba diving, river rafting, cruises, going to the beach, and fishing. Some hobbies that Jamaicans have are playing music, playing sports, and playing cultural games.

Jamaica is known for having the most flavorful cuisines in the Caribbean. Some of Jamaica’s food is influence by Spain, China, and East Indian people. For meats Jamaica uses local meat, such as goat, chicken, and seafood. In Jamaica certain foods are made for holidays, or special events that take place.

About 1,192,00 tourist go and visit Jamaica. The average lifespan of a person in Jamaica is about 73 years old Jamaicans only use about 16% of their land There about about 39,188 crimes that happen in Jamaica yearly.
