The Big Bang Theory

Because the surrounding universe is expanding at a rate proportional to it’s distance from the milky way, it can be concluded that the objects in the universe must have been closer in the past, to the point that everything in the universe must have all been concentrated at one single point. The Big Bang Theory How do we know galaxies are moving away from us?

Doppler Effect

Electromagnetic Spectrum

Light behaves in two ways: Wave like properties In some instances, light has Particle like properties Natures of light

Analogous to ocean swells Waves are characterized by the following properties: Wavelength Period Frequency Amplitude Light as a wave

Light emitting galaxies are RED SHIFTING How do we know objects are moving away from us? Wavelength increases as distance increases What is blue shifting?
