OFF SITE TUTORING PROGRAM CAMPUS IMPROVEMENT PLAN III Heidi Nolan EDUC 6331, KKL

ABSTRACT The goal of the Off Campus Tutoring plan is to: Provide off site tutoring opportunities for students who are not able to tutor at school Reach out to the school community and involve parents in their children’s education Assist and teach parents games and strategies to help their children in all content areas Increase student achievement in all content areas across all grade levels

EVIDENCE OF NEED Greenwood Forest Elementary school is a Title I campus with roughly 63% of students receiving free or reduced lunch Most children live within walking distance to the school, but a percentage of students live in apartment complexes requiring a long walk The student population is approximately 53% Hispanic, 28% of the students are ESL At-risk students total 42% of the student population The mobility rate is 24% Source: Texas Academic Performance Report Campus Profile

STRATEGIES FOR IMPLEMENTATION Who: Administration Teachers, Including Bilingual Teachers PTO What: Off Campus Tutoring Program When: School Year How: Provide off campus tutoring to students who are unable to attend after school tutoring. Provide language assistance to students and parents through the process. PTO would provide a healthy snack for students.

OFF CAMPUS TUTORING Tutoring site would be secured at apartment complex, in community center or clubhouse. Teachers, including bilingual teachers, accompanied by an administrator, will bring supplies and materials to nearby apartment complexes to provide after school tutoring. Teachers will be paid the normal tutoring stipend. PTO will provide a healthy snack for students. Parents will be invited to tutoring sessions to learn how to assist their children and become involved in their education. Tutoring will take place as needed in the fall, and once a week in the two months preceding the STAAR test.
