1 SCHOOL WIDE VOCABULARY DEVELOPMENT CAMPUS IMPROVEMENT PLAN I Heidi Nolan EDUC 6331, KKL

2 ABSTRACT The goal of the school-wide vocabulary development plan is to: Increase everyday and academic vocabulary across all grade levels and among all students Show yearly reading progress for ESL students. Close the achievement gap between low performing students and their peers.

3 EVIDENCE OF NEED In order to improve Greenwood Forest students’ scores in all subjects, reading levels, fluency, and deficiency in Tier I and Tier II, vocabulary must be addressed. Reading levels and fluency scores, as evidenced by yearly reading benchmarks, are well below grade-level. Assessments and anecdotal observations by teachers of vocabulary deficiencies provide clear evidence of a continued and intensified need for immediate intervention, and a school-wide, common reading focus as we begin the 2014-2015 school year.
