SELF EVOLVING INSTITUTIONS 3.2

QUESTION: HOW DO WE MAKE ORGANIZATIONS ‘SUSTAINABLE’? Is this a good question?

QUESTION: HOW DO WE MAKE ORGANIZATIONS ‘SUSTAINABLE’? WHY SHOULD ‘WE MAKE’? WHAT IS SUSTAINABLE – STAY THE SAME? SURVIVE? SELF-DEVELOP???

PRINCIPLE OF SELF EVOLVING ORGANIZATIONS IF ORGANIZATIONS HAVE USEFUL FUNCTIONS, PEOPLE WILL ORGANIZE AND SUSTAIN THEM IF THEY DO NOT, LET THEM GO ORGANIZATIONS THAT ORGANIZE AND DEVELOP THEMSELVES

No ‘project’ ever organized soccer clubs EXAMPLE

Yet soccer clubs thrive all over the world

WHAT CAN WE LEARN FROM THIS?

It helps self evolving organizing organizations to develop, if: There are examples (other organizations) to learn from - and even copy the effort If there is some sort of structure, such as simple basic rules Some mild form of competition – creating the initiative to do better than some of the others

What can we learn from this for the development of Water User Groups?

What we can learn from this for the development of Water Users Groups? Keep organization’s rules simple Encourage them to organize themselves according to these minimum rules Bring them into contact with each other – especially new groups with established groups Organize events where they can meet and see how they perform in comparison to other groups Let them federate themselves
