Pedagogy  Pedagogy [ped-uh-goh-jee, -goj-ee] 1. The function or work of a teacher; teaching. 2. The art or science of teaching; education; instructional methods.

Objective: I will be able to:  Analyze the different methods used by instructors to teach students.  Decide what pedagogy method works best for me.

Pedagogy Methods  Traditional (teacher centered)  Constructivist (student centered)

Part 1  Learn about traditional and constructivist pedagogy styles.  Research about the Reggio approach & one other pedagogical method/theory/style.  Compare and contrast the two pedagogy styles you chose.

Compare and Contrast Reggio ApproachStyle # 2

Next Steps (part 2)  Evaluate school and teaching philosophies based on these theories;  Develop interview questions based on your research and interview educational experts as primary sources;  Observe 2 different sites and educational experts in action and collect data;  Reflect on how developmental/educational and teaching theories/philosophies are used on a daily basis.

Personal Relevance  Written and oral explanation of research and reflection of what has been learned and how it relates to you;  Develop a personal teaching philosophy.

Teaching Philosophy  A philosophy of teaching statement should reflect you: Your personal values The needs of your students The needs of your curriculum area
