1979 – 1980: Establishing Disability Rights Meeting with other civil rights leaders Established our office in Washington, DC Joined the Executive Committee of the Leadership Conference on Civil Rights Produced “No More Stares,” a book about the experience of girls and women with disabilities 2

1981 – 1986: Standing Ground Organized the community and lobbied to defeat the Reagan administration’s attempt to repeal Section 504 Organized parents of children with disabilities to stop the Administration from weakening the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) Increased legal efforts at the US Supreme Court 3
