AST2 Hypbrid Profiler Mooring PDR Ocean Observatories Initiative Coastal & Global Scale Nodes At Sea Test 2 Hybrid Profiler Mooring Preliminary Design Review

AST2 Hybrid Profiler Mooring PDR Purpose of AST2 (From ) The purpose of the AST2 DT is two fold: 1. Assess and/or verify key technical aspects (i.e., requirements and design) of developmental items intended for production that would otherwise be difficult to accomplish outside an at-sea exercise; and 2. Execute and mature the engineering development, build and test processes on stationary platforms that represent the bulk of marine assets to be deployed for OOI prior to production.

AST2 Hybrid Profiler Mooring PDR Comments WiFi will not scheduled to be included in the final deployment moorings. This can be added to support testing if required. The platform controller will be the SIO controller.

AST2 Hybrid Profiler Mooring PDR Test Objectives & Compliance No.ObjectiveMethodComplianceNotes 3Assess power consumption of primary power supplies of sensors and profilers under normal at-sea conditions TestFull 4Verify platform controller functionality, telemetry functions, and data acquisition software TestPartial to Full1 4aTest the operation of platform controller and its associated software and telemetry functions under typical at sea conditions. AST2 Hybrid Profiler Mooring PDR Test Objectives & Compliance (continued) No.ObjectiveMethodComplianceNotes 6Validate procedures for deployment and recovery of moorings DemonstrationPartial2 8Validate mooring design analysis assumptions through post-recovery data assimilation TestFull Notes: 1)The SIO controller will be used as the platform controller. 2)Full compliance will require the use of a wire following profiler.

AST2 Hybrid Profiler Mooring PDR Key test elements: – Validate performance and behavior of mooring in fully deployed deep ocean conditions – Mechanical and functional test of SPP – Telemetry – Endurance – Bi-directional communications with fully integrated system – Controller takes data from WFP then transmits to SPP for iridium transmission to shore – Controller receives and stores data from SPP – Controller receives commands from SPP via iridium from shore – Deployment & recovery safety – SPP & Large Flotation Sphere
