Proposal for teacher training at the University of Hohenheim Maria Gerster-Bentaya Ländliche Soziologie der Universität Hohenheim TEMPUS project "Lifelong learning for sustainable agriculture in Alps-Danube-Adriatic Region - LifeADA“; WG4 Funded by the European Union WG4 - LifeADA training possibility -

Designing and conducting LL training modules (“Didactics training”) Background Sustainable agriculture takes place in a changing environment; knowledge and skills acquired during previous learning phases need to be updated, some even unlearned. Learning theories and principles of human psychology suggest that learning needs to be  Self-initiated and self-responsible  Significant for the learner (oriented towards practical use)  Adapted to the learner’s capacities and situation (professional, family, ….) Also teachers / trainers need to conduct trainings in accordance with these principles (  experiential learning)

Rough description of the “Didactic training” Possible participants Trainers, teachers … a)Involved in developing learning modules b)conducting training possible objectives Participants have acquired basic knowledge and skills in… -developing learner-oriented training modules (formulating learning objectives, deriving contents, choosing adequate methods, tools and materials) -conducting learning sessions integrating participants experiences and skills considering group dynamics -using feedback tools (video, participatory collection & discussion methods)

Rough description of the “Didactic training” Possible contents 1.Basic concepts & principles of adult learning 2.Learner-oriented, activating methods, selection criteria 3.Design and facilitation of practice oriented training formats for groups (practical training / workshop)  work on / discussion of developed teaching plans of pilot activities Duration, group size and time Group size:20 persons *) Duration:3 days (incl. ½ day excursion) Travel time:4-5 days Time framebetween 24. August and 11. September or: September

* ) Organisation of teachers training mobility LifeAda proposal foresees 8*5 = 40 persons staff training coming to Hohenheim with 3 days mobility. For organizational reasons: split in 2 groups of 20 persons,…..with overlap for one day to organize a common excursion (0,5-1 day)  to see practice examples off campus. Suggestion: Arrival 1 st group Sunday evening, with training on Monday and Tuesday Excursion day for both batches: Wednesday; 2 nd group arrives Tuesdays evening, joins excursion on Wednesday and has training days Thursday and Friday.
