Colombia

Geography Area: 1,141,748 square kilometres. Capital: Bogotá. Major Rivers: Magdalena and Cauca. Main cities: Santa Fe de Bogota, Medellin, Cali, Barranquilla, Bucaramanga, Pereira, Cartagena. Note: It is the only country in South America with coasts on the Atlantic and Pacific.

Climate Being in low latitudes, Colombia has a tropical climate characterized by a uniform temperature most of the year. In Colombia there are no stations in other countries, but the relief allowed to own land with different temperatures, which can be moved to rest or for health reasons

Flora In hot and rainy lands permanently, a forest grows up of tall trees and evergreen foliage. Abundance of woody vines and epiphytes, ie plants that live within other plants. There is also a lower vegetation (forest grove) and bushy. Colombian herbaria have classified more than 130,000 plants, including among them the beautiful orchid is considered the national flower of Colombia. In wetter regions, as in the jungles of Choco, the Amazon, the Catatumbo, the Central Valley of the Magdalena and the lower slopes of the mountains, the vegetation is lush, with a variety of species and rich in timber, oil palm, rubber, balsa and others.

Fauna Colombia has the largest number of species per unit area on the planet. There are over 1800 species of birds, ranging from the Andean condor to the tiny Colombian colibri. La fauna is very diverse especially in the Amazon jungle, there are a variety of species (birds, rodents, insects, fish, monkeys, reptiles, etc.) unique in the world, example is the pink dolphins. Among wild animals include the tapir, tapir, puma, lion, tiger, deer, bears, monkeys, monkeys, wild boars, weasels, otters, alligators, among others.
