NCLB- An overview / Requires states to give assessments to all grades if they are to receive public funding / Even schools who show significant gains can still be labeled an “F” school if they fail to meet state and AYP requirements / Calls for 100% of teachers in core subjects to be “highly qualified” / Requires states to give assessments to all grades if they are to receive public funding / Even schools who show significant gains can still be labeled an “F” school if they fail to meet state and AYP requirements / Calls for 100% of teachers in core subjects to be “highly qualified”

NCLB- An Overview (continued) / Focuses on Math and Reading scores / Forces the use of many scripted, un-artistic methods of teaching / Gives more choices to parents as to what school their child will attend / Puts an enormous amount of pressure on schools! / Focuses on Math and Reading scores / Forces the use of many scripted, un-artistic methods of teaching / Gives more choices to parents as to what school their child will attend / Puts an enormous amount of pressure on schools!

Problems with NCLB / 1) Failing schools / 2) Lack of quality teachers / 3) Lowering of standards / 4) Ignoring of children / 5) Factory Style learning / 6) Loss of best and future teachers / 7) Drop outs and push outs / 1) Failing schools / 2) Lack of quality teachers / 3) Lowering of standards / 4) Ignoring of children / 5) Factory Style learning / 6) Loss of best and future teachers / 7) Drop outs and push outs

Failing Schools / Thousands of schools have been labeled failures despite significant improvements / 71% of Florida schools have failed to meet AYP, required by NCLB, which is in sharp contrast to state repord cards which have awarded an “A” or “B” to three out of every four schools in Florida / Thousands of schools have been labeled failures despite significant improvements / 71% of Florida schools have failed to meet AYP, required by NCLB, which is in sharp contrast to state repord cards which have awarded an “A” or “B” to three out of every four schools in Florida

Lack of Quality Teachers / No state has yet to meet the standard that all teachers be qualified / Difficult conditions and pressure prevent qualified individuals to want to teach / No state has yet to meet the standard that all teachers be qualified / Difficult conditions and pressure prevent qualified individuals to want to teach

Lowering of standards / Many schools have adapted to giving easier tests and lowering their standards to give off the false impression of educational progress to avoid shame and embarrassment by not meeting educational standards

Ignoring of Children / Many schools have resorted to ignoring disadvantaged and minority students so that their low scores not be included in the school’s progress

Factory Style Learning / Too many programs emphasizing heavily scripted, mind numbing kinds of learning activities / “Fast food” education style where students seem to go through an assembly line / Too many programs emphasizing heavily scripted, mind numbing kinds of learning activities / “Fast food” education style where students seem to go through an assembly line

Loss of Best and Future Teachers / Many teachers dropping out or retiring early because of high demands placed on them to by NCLB / Research shows tens of thousands of potential teachers are shifting careers as they hear horror stories of demands placed on them because of NCLB, and the lack of pay for their efforts, resulting in many teachers not being “highly qualified” / Many teachers dropping out or retiring early because of high demands placed on them to by NCLB / Research shows tens of thousands of potential teachers are shifting careers as they hear horror stories of demands placed on them because of NCLB, and the lack of pay for their efforts, resulting in many teachers not being “highly qualified”

Drop Outs and Push Outs / The pressure to create good scores also rewards schools that can shove students out the door because weak students make schools look bad / Scores go up when weak students drop out of school. NCLB should be renamed "No Child Left in School." / The pressure to create good scores also rewards schools that can shove students out the door because weak students make schools look bad / Scores go up when weak students drop out of school. NCLB should be renamed "No Child Left in School."

Conclusion / Just 7 reasons were given why NCLB needs to end but THERE ARE MANY MORE!!! / If NCLB is done away with, it is believed students and teachers alike would be more productive a whole lot happier!! / Just 7 reasons were given why NCLB needs to end but THERE ARE MANY MORE!!! / If NCLB is done away with, it is believed students and teachers alike would be more productive a whole lot happier!!
