2013 GRADE 4 MUSIC CLASS PARENT’S DAY WELCOME PARENTS!

MY NAME IS ERIC GULOTTY. Graduated from New York University with a degree in Theatre Worked for over 20 years in theatre, television, movies, and special events Came to Taiwan five years ago with my wife and two children This is my fourth year at Guangren

FALL SEMESTER 2013 GRADE 4 CONVERSATION

WHAT ARE THE CLASS GOALS? Maximize opportunities for students to speak English with each other Students will be able to use the material in an interactive manner Students will find speaking, reading, and writing English to be a positive experience Students will regularly practice using sentences with some of the common grammar transfer difficulties Students will practice listening, speaking, and thinking in English using academic material and language.

HOW WILL I TEACH THE CLASS?  Warm up period where students share with each other to get used to speaking English (5 minutes)  Topic is introduced and discussed (5 minutes)  Specific material is presented (5 minutes)  Games and activities to practice (15 minutes)  Students use the language on their own(10 minutes)

ASSESSMENT Writing is not considered as part of the overall grade, but making an effort to write is! YLE spelling rules apply We are only assessing listening and speaking Students are required to ask and answer questions about the material using a “show and tell” format Effort counts for 20% of the class grade! Midterm/Final 50% Quizzes and Activities 30% Conversation Class makes up 40% of the Main Materials Grade

WHAT CAN PARENTS DO TO HELP? Students need to practice English as much as music! Make English a positive experience Encourage your child to talk about the books and conversations they study in school Be supportive when your child is trying to speak English with you
