American Literature

Curriculum Emphasis on nonfiction Shorter works including essays, articles, op-ed pieces, letters, expository texts, reference materials, etc. Major works of literature include: The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald The Crucible by Arthur Miller NOTE: We are currently seeking to diversify the American literary experience for the 11 th grade curriculum

Focus on Literary Analysis Close reading Analysis of literary components and styles Author’s purpose, intended audience, rhetoric, etc.

Focus on the Writing Process In-class writing workshops Argumentative / Research Writing process: draft – final revision Write, write, write!
