PRELIMINARY MODEL OF MULTICULTURAL LIBRARY

Framework of the model Pillars of multicultural library: Cooperation Inclusion Strengthening Visibility Ways of action Areas of action Implementation process – 5 steps to multicultural library

Pillars of multicultural library cooperation – partnership-based treatment of minority groups, cooperation with the community and organizations associating cultural minorities, inclusion – addressing the needs of various groups in library activities, strengthening – equalizing opportunities for minority groups, facilitating access, including special activities, visibility – noticing, appreciating and promoting the heritage of minority groups, including education for the majority group about minorities

Ways of action strategic planning; team building and improving its competence; partnership cooperation with the community and inter-library cooperation; communication and promotion; infrastructure and space planning.

Areas of action knowledge and information, culture, education, community integration.

Implementation process 1. Decision to start activities for multiculturalism 2. Diagnosis and analysis of the environment /region in terms of multiculturalism 3. Development of action plan taking into account pillars of multicultural library 4. Implementation of action plan by competent staff 5. Monitoring and evaluation Awareness of multiculturalism and knowledge about it: familiarity with processes and mechanisms
