Presentation transcript:

Skeletal System Project Goal: Identify the subdivisions of the skeletal system and their anatomical locations and physiological functions in fetal development to adulthood.

Research the Skeletal System As you know the skeletal system provides an internal framework for the body, protects organs by enclosure, and anchors skeletal muscles so that muscle contraction can cause movement.

Part I: You will examine the structure of the Axial and Appendicular skeleton to illustrate your understanding of the structural make of our bodies. You will need to illustrate the following in your project. Identify the subdivisions of the skeleton as axial or appendicular List 3 functions of the skeletal system. Draw the four main kinds of bones and label them. Where are they found in the body? Draw a long bone and label the anatomical areas. Where are they found in the body? Describe the role of bone salts and the organic matrix in making bone both hard and flexible. Pictures of various type of bone fractures labeled.

Part II: Describe the process of bone formation in the fetus and model it development throughout its lifetime. -describe how the skull of a newborn infant for fetus difffers from that of an adult and explain the function of frontanels.
