Welcome to the Year Six Coffee Morning St. John’s Catholic Primary School

In Year 6 you will find….   Mrs Moseley   Mrs Burtonwood   Mrs Donnelly (Wednesday am)   Mrs Hodgson (Wednesday pm) Any concerns or worries, please do not hesitate to come and see any of us.

In Year 6 we will continue to promote…. Independence and taking responsibility. All the children are encouraged to work independently. They have also been given class and school jobs.

Homework Diaries Homework will include reading, times tables, learning spellings for a test on Fridays, optional research tasks, projects, as well as a worksheet on a Friday. Please check homework diaries and sign weekly. I will sign them each Monday.

Topic based Recount based (i.e. holidays). Event based (e.g. stories in the media).

Reading Reading is still very important in Year 6. Please continue to read with your child every night and sign reading diary. We look for at least 3 signatures a week. Look for:  Fluency  Expression  Punctuation  Comprehension  New vocabulary

Spellings.... Spelling challenges will be set on a Friday. The spelling test will be the following week. The words will be put on the website as well as in your child’s spelling book.

Handwriting In Year 6, your child will continue to develop their cursive handwriting style. They will use cursive handwriting in all their written work. Children are to write using a handwriting pen, not a gel or biro pen. Additional handwriting work will be given to children who need it.

Class Talks   Talks can be about anything that the children are interested in.   They should last roughly five minutes.   Please help with any research but try not to come up with a ‘script’.   Unfortunately due to computer virus’ in school we are unable to allow children to transfer work using a USB pen. They can however display PowerPoint's or photos using a CD or may them to myself in school. address :
