Introduction to Podcasts (and other techniques)

Introduction to Podcasting Understanding Podcasts Finding Podcast Creating Podcasts (or audio downloads) Three Levels Publishing Podcasts

3 Ways to participate Level One: Click & Listen Listener clicks a button on a Web Page and plays the audio or video file

Level 2: Download file Level Two Listener downloads the audio or video file and can transfer the file to a portable.mp3 player such as an IPOD. Save file

Level Three: Podcast…. And this is what makes the same audio/video file a PODCAST Listener subscribes to the podcast Content comes to subscriber automatically Pull vs Push technology !

Understanding Builds on standard for syndicating text content on the Web, called "RSS" or "Really Simple Syndication". RSS You subscribe to what you want and information comes to you. Example Example Podcasting takes it one step further by allowing audio to be syndicated Listeners can then subscribe to these feeds using an Aggregator such as Itunes. Aggregator The Aggregator continually checks those feeds, and downloads any new content to your computer. Subscribers can then transfer those files to your MP3 player or play them on the PC. See Itunes pictured below.
