They can change its meaning.

A ROOT Word is the original word without a prefix or suffix.

Example: Unfriendly Friend is the root word.

What does UN- mean? “NOT”

What does the prefix DIS- mean? “NOT”

Look at the following DIS- words and determine their meaning.

Spacious means full of space For example: Spacious means full of space

-ly makes the word mean the same thing, just changes a word into an adverb.
