2 Root Words Root words are the same as base words.
These are the words that can stand on their own. Second Grade Language Arts 1 D

Here is an example: Walk is a root word. Don’t forget to walk the dog today. Here walk is used as a verb- action word. Second Grade Language Arts 1 D

4 Word parts can be added to walk to change its meaning.

Suffixes Suffixes are word parts added to the end of each word. They also change the meaning of the word. freeze It is so cold that I might freeze. Second Grade Language Arts 1 D
