Today we expect doctors to be able to cure almost any illness. But in Jesus’ time finding a trained doctor was almost impossible. So when people found out that Jesus could heal people they flocked to Him for help. And, according to the Gospels, He did help them.

What you should know before we start to look at the miracles: Jesus lived in Palestine and it was controlled by some strict Jews. They were sometimes very cruel and they did not like that Jesus claimed to forgive sins. They did not believe Him. They really started to get angry when He helped poor and sick people. They did not believe Jesus could forgive sins.

Draw the following table: Ways doctors heal people: Ways Jesus healed people:

Think of as many ways that doctors can heal people:

Many of the people healed by Jesus were on the fringes of society. Other people ignored or mocked such outcasts. Jesus behaved differently. He showed love and compassion. This alone could have had an emotional healing power, but the Gospels suggest that far more than this was happening. Christians believe that Jesus used the supernatural power of God.
