11 News from COSMO | COSMO User Workshop 2010 Context : COSMO dynamical core does not have any explicit conservation properties for mass, momentum or energy COSMO has stability problems over very steep terrain what will become more important with increasing resolution Goal: Deliver a dynamical core with at least explicit conservation of mass and tailored for resolutions O(1km) Two branches are investigated compressible core: Improve and investigate FV solutions E.g. implement the conservative advection scheme MPDATA anelastic core: investigate the usage of a dynamical core like in EULAG (see Prusa and Smolarkiewicz, 2003) COSMO Priority Project CDC Conservative Dynamical Core
