Presentation transcript:

(i) Investigate one case study from an LEDC of a sustainable project that uses appropriate technology, and describe and explain how it aims to use technology to progress economic, environmental and social improvements; (ii) Evaluate the success of this appropriate technology project.

Technology that can be made with local materials by local people at an affordable price, whilst benefitting individuals and communities, it will have a limited impact on the environment.

Life expectancy58 yrs GNP$1,600 Literacy Rate85% Urban population22% Primary industry20% factbook/geos/ke.html

Would these technologies be appropriate to help aid Kenyas development? Explain why.

1 Provide anyone with a mobile phone.

2 Provide each community with a wind turbine.

3 Provide families with a goat.

Traditional African stove. Heated stones above a fire made from wood.

Solar Cooker- Cookit. Heat from the sun is reflect via aluminium material to a dark cooking pot, this can be contained within a plastic bag to make cooking more efficient.

The cookers are easy to manufacture locally, they can also be made from recycled materials.

Offers the opportunity of small-scale enterprise.

Reduces reliance on wood for fuel. Can also be used to sterilise water.
