Presentation transcript:

Parts of a cell Goal: Students will be able to describe and label the cell organelles

Cells & Organelles Organelles: Structures inside a cell, they all have different jobs Organelles in all cells: Cell Membrane – protects cell; let stuff in and out Nucleus – “boss” of cell; tells other organelles what to do Endoplasmic Reticulum (ER) – transport materials Golgi Body – transport materials Ribosome – make proteins Vacuole – storage for the cell Lysosome – break down food Mitochondria – changes food to energy

Animal Cell Ribosomes (protein factory) Mitochondia (Power Plant) Nucleus (Boss) Cell Membrane (barrier) Endoplasmic Reticulum (Road) Golgi Body (Road) Vacuole (Storage) Lysosome (Cleanup)

Special Organelles Only in plant cells: Cell wall – gives plant cell a box shape Chloroplasts – capture energy from sunlight

Plant Cell Nucleus Ribosomes Chloroplasts (solar panels) Cell Wall Endoplasmic Reticulum Golgi Body Lysosome Vacuole Mitochondria
