Annie Johnson Annie Johnson is a women living in Arkansas in the year She has two toddling sons, very little money, and some ability to read and add simple numbers.

One thing about Annie is she is very confident about herself and wants the best for her and her kids. In her words she says “I looked up the road I was going and back the way I came, and since I wasn’t satisfied, I decided to step off the road and cut me a new path.”

 Actions-Made her own store between the two factories to make money to feed her and her kids, she divorced her husband because she was unsatisfied with their marriage, and she made her a new path because she wanted a better future for her and her kids.  Inner Thoughts- she told herself that she might not be a fancy cook, but she could mix groceries well enough to scare hungry away from a starving man.  Physical Appearance- over six feet tall and big boned.

 Determined- Annie was determined because when she was running her, it states “Although business was slow, those first days Annie was determined”  Brave- She was brave because she knew that she might not be able to get a job after divorcing her husband but she didn’t care and was brave enough to go out on her own to find work.  Courageous- Annie was courageous because she did something that risked everything. She divorced her husband even when she knew that she probably couldn’t get a job. Also she is courageous because she made a store with Meat Pies, cheese, meal, syrup, cookies, candy, writing tablets, pickles, canned goods, fresh fruit, soft drinks, coal, oil, and leather soles for worn-out shoes even though she was a African American women in 1903.

Annie faced many problems during her life. One problem was that she was a women in 1903 and during the time women didn’t have rights and were expected to stay home and take care of the kids and the house work, but Annie decided she wants a new path so she divorced her husband and got a job selling meat pies and other foods to the workers at the factories. Her lunch stop eventually turned into a store where she sold many goods. Another problem is that Annie was a divorced mother with two kids and no job or husband to make money. So as said before she got a job selling lunch in between two factories where at lunchtime, the workers from the two factories would come to Annie to get lunch. They would by these items for a nickel or three cents each.

 The thing that changed Annie was divorcing her husband and taking a new path. She divorced her husband which caused her to have no money but two kids to feed so she got a job as a store owner.  This changed Annie because now she is stronger and she knows she can get threw anything no matter how tough and challenging.
