WHMS RUC2 Ready?

C2 Readiness The Common Core State Standards provide a consistent, clear understanding of what students are expected to learn, so teachers and parents know what they need to do to help them. The standards are designed to be robust and relevant to the real world, reflecting the knowledge and skills that our young people need for success in college and careers.

College and Career Readiness Common standards will help ensure that students are receiving a high quality education consistently, from school to school and state to state. Lake County Schools students will have experiences in problem based learning that reinforce the collaborative nature of the 21st century workplace in elementary, middle, and high school.

C2 Readiness Problem-based learning, complex text, and a range of writing for a variety of purposes can and should exist across all content areas.

Shifts from FCAT to Common Core The biggest change coming from the Common Core standards is not in the Content itself; its the notion of learning targets, and level of cognitive demand and critical thinking, attached to a content standard. ~Kevin Baird, Chairman of Common Core Institute

Shifts from FCAT to Common Core The dramatic shift in teaching prompted by the common core will require practical, intensive, and ongoing professional learning – not one of –spray and pray training that exposes everyone to the same material and hope it sticks ~Stephanie Hirsch, Learning Forward

Critical Elements of Common Core Implementation Knowledge and Use of Common Core State Standards Common and Collaborative Planning Time Interdisciplinary Content Integration Frequency of Problem-Based Learning Student Collaboration Integrated Technology

PLC – Common and Collaborative Planning Time Teachers meet weekly to: review deconstructed standards prioritize the content to determine which to cover the most deeply and determine the areas of intensive focus develop learning goals and scales select assessment methods in the classroom appropriate for the level of cognitive demand identify and prepare text dependent questions across content areas

PLC – Common and Collaborative Planning Time determine tasks and activities to meet the learning goal identify common instructional strategies using the Marzano protocol to be used in the delivery of lessons

School Grade: B – 566 points (B ) Meeting High Standards in Reading: 56% Meeting High Standards in Math: 57% Meeting High Standards in Writing: 81% Meeting High Standards in Science: 47% Making Learning Gains Reading: 62% Making Learning Gains Math: 64% Lowest 25% Learning Gains Reading: 63% Lowest 25% Making Learning Gains: 56% 2012 FCAT DATA
