What are Foehn winds? gwiki/grade-11-caps/grade-11-caps- climate-and-weather/2-global-air- circulation/6-winds-related-to-regional- and-local-air-movements-monsoons-and- fohn/ When the wind goes up the mountain it “squeezes” out all the water. When in gets to the top, and starts going down it becomes a dry and hot wind, that melts the snow. 1met/wxphe/ele_foehn_e.htm 1met/wxphe/ele_foehn_e.htm

what conditions do foehn winds happen in? Snowy, winter, cold but it brings warm weather which is weird.

How long does it usually last? Foehn winds on average last 1-2 days but can last longer on way shorter. wxphe/ele_foehn_e.htm wxphe/ele_foehn_e.htm

When does it happen? It happens in some mountain ranges in the world like the Alps, the Rockies which are in the U.S.A and other places. But the weird thing is that it happens in the winter time. xphe/ele_foehn_e.htm

What kind of damage to property does it do? It brings warm weather but it can destroy crops and bring along droughts, melt snow, and start forest fires. wxphe/ele_foehn_e.htm wxphe/ele_foehn_e.htm

Extras slide They are also called Helm winds and Snow eaters, and ‘ill wind’. Can cause people to become ill. Ex, nausea, headaches, vomiting, depression, etc. Germans also call them föhn winds!
