 Inventors created “mechanical instruments” that played pre-recorded music. They included hydro-powered organs, automatic flutes, and a player piano.

 Audio Engineering began during the 1800s.

 Scottish physicist, James Clerk Maxwell predicted the existence of radio waves.

 Mahlon Loomis, a dentist successfully demonstrated “wireless telegraphy” by making a meter connected to one kite make another one move, marking the first wireless aerial communication.

 Thomas Alva Edison was the first to use recording technology and audio engineering by recording “Mary’s Little Lamb”.

 The first music was put on record in 1878.

 Emile Berliner was granted a patent on a flat disc gramophone, making the production of multiple copies.

 Emily Berliner built on the cylinder phonograph with her disk phonograph that became popular throughout the world.

 Valdemear Poulsen makes his “telegraphone” by recording magnetically on a steel wire.

 Lee Deforest invents the vacuum tube which was the first electronic signal amplifier.

 Electrical audio engineering changed the recording process by introducing the microphone.

 The film “The Jazz Singer” was the first movie to use photo cells to record music right into the movie.

 The Columbia Broadcasting System is formed. This is also known as (CBS).

 Multitrack engineering was developed to record simultaneous tracks onto a recording medium.  The Ampex company began to sell personal tape recorders.

 The Disney film “Fantasia” was the first movie to use stereo sound.

 The movie “Forbidden Planet” is released with an all electronic film score, composed by Louis and Bebe Barron.

 Digital recording was created and became the preferred method of recording in the 1990s

 Phillips demonstrates the compact disc or the CD.

 The compact disc and other recording technology was invented which has become a popular audio recording and made the development of Mp3 technology.

 The Apple Corporation releases the Macintosh Computer.

 Dolby introduces the Spectral Recording System.

 The DVD disc was released and invented.

 Mp3 Players appeared for downloaded internet audio.

 Audio DVD Standard was agreed by manufactures.

 Dual Disc makes their double sided DVD with on side being the CD and the other side being the DVD.
