MR CHROGER VOCABULARY 1.Record the definitions. 2.Draw pictures that represent each life function.

Metabolism  Chemical reactions in the body.  Convert food and water into energy and waste products.

Reproduce  create offspring  Asexual or sexual

Cells – smallest unit of life.  Multicellular – plants and animals are made of many cells!  Single celled organisms are made of only one cell!

Homeostasis  Organisms need to maintain an internal balance  Not enough water = dehydrated  Too much water = water poisoning

Response to Environment  Stimulus  Response  Ex. It’s cold outside (stimulus), so you start to shiver (response)  Organisms evolve to survive in the environment

Obtain and use energy  Plants absorb suns energy  Animals consume nutrients

Grow and develop  All living things have a life cycle – birth to adult

Excrete waste  Get rid of waste  Animal waste - #1, #2, CO 2, sweat (salt), heat

Respiration  Exchanging gases with the atmosphere (to create energy)
