Research and Innovation Topic ENERGY Support to the Sustainable Delivery of Non-food Biomass Feedstock at local, regional and pan-European level FP7 WORK PROGRAMMES 2013 COOPERATION THEMES ENERGY and KBBE

Research and Innovation Open in call: FP7-ENERGY Date of publication: 10 July 2012 Submission Deadline: 28 November 2012 Information Day Energy: 4 July 2012, Brussels Registration open until 20 June on : foday/infoday_energy_en.htm foday/infoday_energy_en.htm The event will also be broadcast live on the internet Information Day KBBE: 16 July 2012, Brussels Registration open until 20 June on :

Research and Innovation Objective To develop Strategies, Roadmaps and Tools (SRT) in support of decision-making for the sustainable and reliable supply of non-food biomass feedstock at local, regional and Pan-European level for the production of bioenergy and other bio-based products

Research and Innovation Implementation & Outputs (1/3) Developing “regional” SRTs Economic, social, environmental and logistics research, building on most relevant data and projects (large body of existing knowledge) Validating and Testing of the SRTs The SRT to be offered to Member States, Associated and neighbouring countries for testing, validation and feedback (sufficient number of “regions”)

Research and Innovation Implementation & Outputs (2/3) Investigating interactions and complementarities between the regional SRTs at Pan-European level Suggesting optimal flows of biomass feedstock to all uses alongside best possible organisation of biomass pre-treatment and conversion plants at interregional levels

Research and Innovation Implementation & Outputs (3/3) Identifying most promising logistic supply-chains at local, regional and pan-European levels to be further elaborated into a set of implementation plans, including: infrastructures needed transport modes flows of feedstock

Research and Innovation Notes Attention to small-scale plants suitable for decentralized operation with associated benefits to rural communities (besides the centralized large-scale units involving long distance biomass transport) South East European and East Neighbourhood countries to be considered as part of this Pan- European approach

Research and Innovation Expected Benefits Help local, regional and national authorities in their decisions for planning and strategy implementation for non-food biomass feedstock Help industries involved in logistics, harvesting, pre-treatment and conversion of biomass for their investment decisions regarding technology, plant location, transport means, etc. Substantial environmental, economic and social benefits
