What is AutoCAD? AutoCAD is a CAD (Computer Aided Design or Computer Aided Drafting) software application for 2D and 3D design and drafting.
Week 10 Drafting 1309: Basic CAD
Presentation transcript:

 AutoCAD is a commercial software application for 2D and 3Dcomputer-aided design (CAD) and drafting — available since 1982 as a desktop application and since 2010 as a mobile web- and cloud- based app marketed as AutoCAD 360commercialsoftware application2D3Dcomputer-aided design (CAD)draftingapp AutoCAD was derived from a program begun in 1977 and released in 1979 [5] called Interact CAD, also referred to in early Autodesk documents as Micro CAD, which was written prior to Autodesk's (then Marin chip Software Partners) formation by Autodesk cofounder Mike Riddle. [5]Interact CAD

The first version by the Autodesk company was demonstrated at the 1982 Comdex and released that December. [8] The 2015 release marked the 29th major release for the AutoCAD for Windows. The 2014 release marked the fourth consecutive year for AutoCAD for Mac.Comdex [8]Mac  AutoCAD is a vector based drawing application intended for engineering purposes. Commands can be entered at a command line or through toolbars and menus.

Basic drawing tools  Point :-  Creates a symbol on the drawing that is tied to a specific point. It is defined by coordinates (x,y,z).  Text :- Inserts a text string into the drawing. AutoCAD uses two forms of text entry, single line and multiline. These are known respectively as DTEXT and MTEXT.

 Hatch :-  Hatches are area fills. They can be made up of a solid colour, a gradient (in later versions of AutoCAD) or more usually a specific pattern. Hatches can be applied to a particular object such as a looped polyline, or any enclosed area.  Circle :-  The only variables here are radius and centre point. Shortcut "c“.  Rectangle :- This is basically a quick way of drawing a four-segment poly line with four right angles. Shortcut "rec".  Polyline :- Polylines are the main business of most drawings. A polyline is made of numerous lines/arcs/or both segmented together into one selectable object
