Understanding Skills for life (S4L)

What is meant by Skills for Life? Literacy, language and numeracy learning Includes all post-16 learners Includes learners with learning difficulties and disabilities Covers all forms of provision From Entry level up to and including level 2

Skills for Life strategy National strategy for improving adult literacy, language and numeracy skills launched in 2001 Target to improve the literacy, language and numeracy skills of 1.5 million adults Working towards common goals in four key areas

Boosting demand Effective promotion of learning opportunities Identification of literacy, language and numeracy needs of employees Addressing the literacy, language and numeracy needs of employees

Boosting capacity Securing sufficient funding Coordinating planning and delivery Improving the quality of teaching

Raising achievement Increase in the number of people attaining national qualifications Barriers to learning tackled Improve the skills up to and including level 2 qualifications

What can Protocol Skills do? Improve literacy and numeracy by delivering learning support where a learner is identified as having learning needs Deliver literacy and numeracy qualifications on Train to Gain contracts Deliver literacy and numeracy qualifications to learners on preparatory programmes

Remember Correct identification of learner needs Encourage learners to participate in literacy and numeracy learning Encourage learner support for literacy and numeracy learning
